Questions to ask before youth soccer tryouts

Understand the team, selection process, and complete commitment before accepting an offer.

Before attending

Confirm eligibility, tryout location and time, any fee, required registration, and what to bring. Ask how changes or cancellations will be communicated.

Understand the team being offered

Ask who will coach the team, where it trains, its expected schedule, roster size, competition format, and approach to playing time. Clarify whether any of these details are still being finalized.

Ask how decisions are communicated

Confirm when families should expect an answer, how offers are delivered, the acceptance deadline, and what an acceptance commits the family to. Ask for the financial and cancellation terms in writing.

Help the player assess the fit

After the session, ask what the player enjoyed, whether instructions were clear, and how comfortable they felt asking questions. Leave space for their opinion before making a decision.

Keep a record of the offer

Save the team name, coach contact, fees, payment dates, attendance expectations, and written terms. Compare these details across offers rather than relying on a verbal summary.
